About

The Person Behind the Books.

30 years making complex systems run without failure. First in enterprise technology. Now in your books.

David Wagner, owner of Spectrum Financial Solutions

I'm David Wagner. I run Spectrum Financial Solutions out of Maple Park, Illinois, and I keep the books for skilled trades businesses — plumbers, HVAC contractors, and electricians — across the Fox Valley, DeKalb County, and beyond.

For more than 30 years I worked in enterprise technology, making complicated systems run without failure. The job came down to one thing: when something broke, people lost money until it was fixed. So I learned to find the problem, fix the system, and make sure it didn't come back. Bookkeeping is that same work, pointed straight at your business.

Why the trades

I built this practice for the trades on purpose. You're exceptional at your craft and buried in the business side of it. You didn't start a plumbing company to reconcile bank accounts at 10pm on a Sunday. That part is my job — and I'm good at it.

Trades owners respond to straight answers, not jargon. So that's how I work. I tell you what your numbers mean in plain English, and I tell you the truth even when it isn't the easy thing to say.

How I actually work

Every client gets a dedicated day. Same day, every week. Your books don't pile up. Every month, by a guaranteed date, your statements are ready and your numbers are explained in plain English. I don't disappear after setup — we check in after the first month to make sure everything is running the way it should. You're a partner, not a file.

If your books are behind or a mess, that's not a problem — it's the starting line. We begin with a Catch-up & Clean-up engagement to get everything current, then move into ongoing monthly bookkeeping.

Local, on purpose

I'm based in Maple Park — Bears country — and I'd rather earn your trust in person than hide behind a national call center. I'm a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor (Level 1, Level 2, and Payroll), an active member of BNI Dream Builders in the Fox Valley, and a member of the local chamber of commerce. Local. Accessible. One of you.

What I run on

Three values, in this order:

  • Judgment — knowing what matters, and acting on it.
  • Relationship — you're a partner, not a ticket number.
  • Accountability — I show up every week, and the work gets done.
